PICTURE A SCIENTIST is a feature-length documentary film chronicling the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. A biologist, a chemist and a geologist lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, overcoming brutal harassment, institutional discrimination, and years of subtle slights to revolutionize the culture of science. From cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we also encounter scientific luminaries who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.
The film transcends the academic environment, raising important issues for men and women working together, highlighting the role of bystanders as well as institutional change. While dealing head-on with the issues of harassment, implicit bias, and institutional discrimination, the film also provides insight into pathways to new relationships and ways of working together.
Tickets are available for purchase HERE
On Monday May 17 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, BBA will host a panel discussion moderated by Julia Gartley, P.Eng., MBA of BBA to discuss the film, personal experiences of the panelists in the mining industry and solutions for better workplace cultures such as allyship, active bystander strategies and strong mentoring of early career workers.
